India makes up 2.4 percent of the world’s land, while
supporting 16 percent of the world’s population. The
compounding result is an abominably flawed use of natural
resources for numerous decades. Currently, India is undergoing
speedy and extensive environmental degradation at frightening
rates. Air pollution, growing water scarcity, water pollution,
falling groundwater tables, preservation & quality of forests
along with poor management of waste, have lead to
environmental degradation, poor public health, loss of
biodiversity, loss of resilience in ecosystems and livelihood
insecurity for the poor.
Skill Development and Entrepreneurship development efforts
across the country have been highly fragmented so far. Though
India enjoys the demographic advantage of having the youngest
workforce with an average age of more years in comparison with
the advanced economies, as opposed to the developed countries,
where the percentage of skilled workforce is between 60% and
90% of the total workforce, India records a low 5% of
workforce (20-24 years) with formal employability skills.
